This paper deals with experimental investigations on the suitability of aluminum particles for the visualization of natural convection flow of water. Flow patterns on a vertical heated plate, inside a vertical annulus and an annular chamber were visualized under different conditions using aluminum particles. Tellurium dye was also used in some of the cases for comparison. Details of the test set-ups, experimental procedure and photographs of flow patterns are presented in the paper. These investigations demonstrate the effectiveness of aluminum particles for the visualization of natural convection flow of water.
