Краткое описание

The results of electron-microscopic studies on morphological variability of frustules of the Baikal diatomic algae Cyclotella baicalensis Skv. and C. minuta (Skv.) Antipova are presented. The regularities of variability found in the main structure elements of frustules have been observed in other taxa of the genus. The character and extent of variability in the quantitative traits of C. baicalensis and C. minuta are the same as in other representatives of Cyclotella. There is no reason to isolate C. ornata (Skv.) Flower into an independent species. A number of traits are given for identification of “intermediate” forms.
