Краткое описание

We investigated the features of quantal release of glutamate and GABA in the synapses between co-cultured retinal ganglion cells (RGCs) and superior colliculus (SC) neurons using dual patch-clamp technique. The main quantal characteristics of the neurotransmitter release were defined using independent basic quantal analysis methods. The distribution of released quanta for both neurotransmitters corresponded to the binomial law. It has been shown that evoked postsynaptic currents (PSCs) in the SC neurons in response to generation of action potential (AP) in the RGC soma were mediated by simultaneous release of no less than 2 − 14 quanta of glutamate and 2 quanta of GABA, which guarantees high efficacy of afferent signal transmission. It has been supposed that multiquantal character of the neurotransmitter release can be related to simultaneous excitation of either several closely adjacent terminals of the presynaptic axon with one active zone, or one terminal with several active zones.
