NUMERICAL INVESTIGATION OF HEAT TRANSFER ENHANCEMENT USING DETACHED VORTEX GENERATORS IN FIN-AND-TUBE HEAT EXCHANGERS
Краткое описание
The current study deals with the investigation of heat transfer and fluid flow properties from plain fin-and-tube heat exchangers installed with detached rectangular winglet pairs (DRWPs). A 3D numerical study is conducted to analyze the effect of DRWPs on the performance of the heat exchangers and to compare the performance of heat exchangers in DRWP enhanced cases with baseline configuration. The study includes optimization of detached vortex generator (DVG) geometry for maximum heat transfer enhancement. The DRWPs were installed in three different configurations: 1DRWP (first tube), 3DRWP (alternate tube), and 7DRWP (all tubes). Compared to the vortex generators attached to the fin, significantly higher heat transfer enhancement is observed with DRWPs. Enhancement in overall heat transfer coefficient of 18.2-61.9%, 33.1-80%, and 52.4-97.6% over baseline is observed in three different configurations with DVGs, investigated over the range of Reynolds number under consideration. Corresponding increase in j–factor of 62%, 80%, and 98% is observed at Re = 675 in the three configurations. The analysis of the heat transfer mechanism, and the reasons behind the significant heat transfer rise, confirms the feasibility of application of DRWPs in heat transfer enhancement and lays down the means to install these DVGs effectively on the heat exchanger and in other environments.
