Abstract of "Ethical Implications of New Neuroscience Techniques As Applied to Homeland Security"

Kenneth R. Foster
Dept. of Biomedical Engineering University of Pennsylvania Philadelphia, PA 19104

Краткое описание

Neuroscience is yielding new technologies for socially important applications. In this paper I consider technologies that are being developed for potential use in homeland security, and some of their potential ethical implications. For example, MALINTENT, a system employing remote sensors being developed by the Department of Homeland Security, is said to be capable of identifying people with criminal intent and is being developed for use in screening passengers in airports. What are some ethical implications of the use, or even the development, of such a system?
