The combustion of magnesium−strontium nitrate pyrotechnic compositions has been investigated. This combination is used in light-producing pyrotechnic mixture for red light flame radiation during combustion. A mixture of magnesium, strontium nitrate, potassium perchlorate, and chlorinated rubber was chosen for this work. The principle goal of the task was obtaining two very important characteristics of the red light-producing mixture: luminous intensity and color value (percentage of total emission in the red spectral range, 630-690 nm). Also, the goals of our work were obtaining the pyrotechnic mixture with stable combustion, well defined flame and high energy output. During the work, some changes of pattern composition were made to achieve the best combustion and maximum red color emission of the flame. In addition to formulation, the authors also investigated how the change in the raw materials' average particle size, mixture preparation procedure, and pressure loading affect the functionality and stable combustion of the mixture in the final devices. The average particle size and pressure loading had the most important effect on the functionality. Some thermochemical calculations for each composition are given.
