ABSTRACT

Internal vortical flows, in particular formation and destruction of vortices of flows in vessels, are discussed. Because of the great variety of such flows, the examples considered here are restricted to cylindrical and spherical boundary shapes. Computational concepts for momentum and vorticity transport are discussed in the frame of finite-difference approaches. Several examples of flow predictions demonstrate some characteristic properties of such flows and exhibit some of the difficulties arising in their computation.
