ABSTRACT

Boiling is an efficient mode of heat transfer and is utilized in various energy conversions, heat exchange systems and in cooling of high energy density electronic components. Fundamental pool boiling mechanisms suggest that modification in heat transfer surface is a key factor in enhancement of heat transfer coefficient (HTC). In this study, pool boiling heat transfer enhancement is achieved by providing graphene coated surface by using spin coating method. In this experiment the substrates used are made up of copper on which thin film of graphene with variable thicknesses in the range of 53nm to 500nm will be deposited and working fluid used is deionized water. The experiment is conducted at atmospheric pressure. Fourier law of heat transfer is used to determine the temperature fields of the heater surfaces. In this experiment boiling heat transfer performance is monitored and boiling parameter such as boiling heat transfer coefficient (HTC) is investigated and found to be enhanced by 65.92% over the plain Cu surface. The enhancement in HTC can be explained by the variation in surface properties obtained by characterization which can modify the bubble dynamics.
