ABSTRACT

Reverse simulation, which is the solution to the transport equation in negative time, is a method for identifying a pollutant source with CFD. However, there is a numerical instabilities problem when solving the diffusion term. We proposed a method for improving the numerical instability. The method applies a low-pass filter to the concentration field, and improves numerical stabilities, but the concentration fields spread diffusely in the analytical domain.
Herein, we propose a method of applying a low-pass filter operation to concentration flux in order to prevent the concentration field from spreading diffusely and identifying the pollutant source with reverse simulation. The proposed method is useful for improving the precision of reverse simulation.
