NUMERICAL SIMULATION OF AN IMPINGING SINGLE SQUARE JET

Abstract

The present work deals with 3-D numerical simulation of an impinging laminar single square jet on a heated plate. The flow and heat transfer characteristics have been investigated numerically by using the three-dimensional Navier-Stokes and energy equations in a steady state. The simulations have been carried out for nozzle to plate distances between 2−12 jet widths and the Reynolds number within range of 100−500. The results indicate a rather complex flow field with peripheral vortices formed around the jet. The size and location of the peripheral vortices are changed with Reynolds number and the nozzle to plate distances.
