ABSTRACT

The presented study is relevant to the problem of liquid metal cooling of the first wall in the thermofusion reactors. One of the most effective methods of heat transfer intensification in a MHD liquid metal flow is an artificial excitation of large-scale quasi-two-dimensional vortices commensurable with the width of flow. The vortices were generated by the vortical electromagnetic force created due to copper cylinders (turbulence promoters) periodically installed on the heated wall, parallel to magnetic field. It is shown that vortical structures provided a 5-6 times increase of heat transfer compared to the channel without turbulence promoters.
