ABSTRACT

Since 1904 when Prandtl published his first contribution to boundary layer theory, the incentive has been great to understand processes taking place in the fluid in the vicinity of a solid surface. With modern technology and its effort to intensify processes in the vicinity of any interface, problems relevant to boundary layer theory have become an attractive subject for a number of specialists in different fields, working to solve the respective problems encountered.
In the late sixties, it became obvious that progress of the research in boundary layer theory had reached such a level that further development would greatly benefit from an international gathering facilitating exchange of information between specialist the world over. In particular it was felt that an exchange of ideas between the Eastern and Western scientific communities would be a boon to further international cooperation.
A group of specialists in the field of heat and mass transfer involved in energy and space research related programs forwarded a proposal that an international meeting should be held on heat and mass transfer in turbulent boundary layers. The one hundred fifteen participants from eleven countries at the meeting held in 1968 with their sixty three contributions proved during very intensive discussion that the great interest existed in the topic and the meeting goal was indeed well served it being singularly helpful to professionals in the field.
