ABSTRACT

Research on the internal cooling of gas-turbine blades is reviewed, especially the effects of rotation on cooling performance. Three quite different cooling strategies are adopted covering the leading, mid-blade and trailing sections of the blade. While effects of rotation for the first two have been examined, only experimental studies have been reported for the first of these. No studies of rotational effects have been published for trailing sections and moreover only rudimentary CFD work has been attempted even for non-rotating conditions. Possible reasons and future research emphases are discussed.
