ABSTRACT

A hybrid Eulerian-Lagrangian large eddy simulation (LES) is used to compute scalar dispersion in a turbulent flow. Lagrangian tracking of fluid particles containing scalar is adopted, instead of resolving the passive scalar transport equation. The subgrid scale velocity component of fluid particles is obtained from a Lagrangian stochastic subgrid model coupled with the Eulerian LES. This Lagrangian stochastic subgrid model is written in terms of subgrid scale statistics. The coupling is applied to the study of turbulent scalar dispersion. Our simulations are compared with two sets of experimental results.
