ABSTRACT

Three dimensional physically-based models of industrial thermal equipment are a powerful tool. Application to a power station boiler and an industrial glass furnace is presented in this paper. The potential of these models as a basis of an expert system for on-line control is discussed. A merit function is proposed to represent the glass furnace global performance. This function allows the evaluation of the furnace performance by retrieving the computed results from a data base where they are previously stored. This information can be fed into an expert system. The application of this methodology to utility boilers is also discussed.
