ABSTRACT

Diagnostic systems in power generation are able to achieve more challenging goals than more traditional control systems. The aim here is the application of effective, corrective measures as early as possible, through timely recognition of progressive faults. In this manner the economical viability as well as the lifespan of the plant may be increased. A further advantage is that the regular, preventive revision cycle may be replaced by more status oriented maintenance. Hence the repair schedule is dictated by the condition of the plant instead of time oriented preventive measures.
The following presents "DIGEST", a system developed by Siemens/KWU for the diagnosis of steam power generation equipment.
