EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF NATURAL CONVECTION BETWEEN ASYMMETRICALLY HEATED PARALLEL PLATES WITH OPEN OR CLOSED SIDE GAPS AND CHIMNEY
ABSTRACT
The paper presents results of an experimental investigation carried out to study heat transfer under natural convection conditions between asymmetrically heated vertical parallel plates channel with open or closed side gaps and with and without chimney. The Rayleigh number of the study ranges from 0.46×108−1.1×108, spacing to channel height ratio s/H is 0.034−0.085, and the chimney to channel height ratio is unity. Over the range of study, the configuration with the open side gaps and s/H = 0.068 provides the best performance (Nusselt number values are 1.5−1.76 times of that for a single vertical heated plate), while the configuration with the closed side gaps is the poorest in performance. A chimney is useful when side gaps are closed.
