ABSTRACT

A method of successive approximation is used for solution of the three-dimensional "equilibrium" and "frozen" compressible boundary layer equation. The governing equations reduced to a form suitable for integration. With the help of an integral method it's possible to obtain the analytical formulas for definition of heat transfer and skin friction. In case of "equilibrium" boundary layer we obtain simple formulas for estimation of heat flux at blunt body stagnation point. The results compared with the data obtained using Fay-Riddel relation, Sutton–Graves formula, the computations of Navier-Stokes equation. We also present the formulas of the heat transfer depending on catalytic and non-catalytic wall for "frozen" flows.
This approach permits to take an accurate resolution of the heat transfer over a wide range of thermal environments for aerospace, nuclear, chemical and mechanical engineering applications. The examples of a computation for the "equilibrium" and "frozen" flow past a cone with spherically blunted nose presented.
