Abstract

A theoretical investigation of the effects of two-dimensional temperature distributions on the heat flow through rectangular fins is presented. The two-dimensional effects can be significant and current design method can over-predict by 16% and under-predict by 10%. The fin temperature distribution is mainly uni-dimensional, however severe two-dimensional temperature distributions occur in the supporting wall.
