RESUMO

Imparting stability to the nanofluids is important for various applications, including heat-exchange. In the present study, aluminum oxide (Al2O3) nanoparticles of size 80 nm are anchored with PEG (poly(ethylene glycol) methyl ether) with the help of a silane ((3-chloropropyl) trimethoxysilane) linker. The process adopted here is a two-step reaction. In the first step, the silane is anchored to the surface of the particles, utilizing the condensation of methoxy silane over hydroxyl groups on the surface of the particles, while in the second step; PEG is anchored over the attached silane. The success of the method employed is evaluated with the help characterization techniques like IR, UV spectrometry, DLS, zeta potential and TGA. Preliminary results are satisfactory which is also reflected in the stability tests done.
