RESUMO

The work is aimed at extending the one-dimensional shock tube problem for an ideal gas to water as the shock tube fluid. The study is purely single-phase in nature with water as the only fluid. Numerical modeling of the problem is done with three different schemes viz. second order MacCormack, HLLC and AUSM+-up. With Tait equation of state, water is modeled as a compressible liquid. A comparative evaluation of the three numerical schemes in handling the problem is done. The ability of Tait equation in modeling the compressibility effects of water is elucidated from the results. AUSM+-up is found to be the best numerical scheme out of the three schemes employed, in handling the water shock tube problem. Water compressibilty modeled with Tait equation of state provides satisfactory results albeit its inability in capturing the density jump across the contact surface. Numerical computation is carried out with coarse as well as fine grid to obtain a clear understanding on the performance of the numerical schemes used. The problem is modeled at two different pressure ranges in order to inspect the behavior of water and its compressibility effects' variation with pressure magnitude.
