NUMERICAL ANALYSIS OF EFFECT OF PRANDTL NUMBER ON NATURAL CONVECTION USING LATTICE BOLTZMANN METHOD

RESUMO

A thermal lattice Boltzmann approach is used to investigate the effect of entropy generation due to natural convection in differentially heated square cavity. The study has been conducted for following range of conditions; Rayleigh number (103, 104,105 and 106) and Prandtl number (0.16, 0.71 and 10). The Boussinesq approximation is made and the relaxation times for density and internal energy are kept under permissible limit. The results are depicted in terms of Nusselt number, entropy generation due to heat transfer and fluid friction. It is observed that the entropy generation due to heat transfer and Nusselt number increases with increase in Rayleigh number for all Prandtl number. Also it is observed that, the entropy generation due to fluid friction decreases with Prandtl number but increases with Rayleigh number for all Prandtl number. The effect of inclinational angle is also studied in the present work.
