RESUMO

We investigate experimentally the heat transfer across a sheared suspension of non-Brownian spherical particles f owing at very low Reynolds number (Re « 1). Particles within the f uid collide with each other, resist the straining motion and rotate when the suspension is set into motion. This produces velocity disturbances within the f uid which are chaotic. In the same way as turbulence produces chaotic mixing at large Reynolds number, we show that in sheared suspensions f owing at very low Reynolds number, the phenomenon referred as shear-induced diffusion, greatly enhance the transfer of heat (> 300%). We also show that enhanced heat transport observed in sheared suspensions is well correlated to the particle diffusion.
