REHABILITATION PROJECT FOR A CULTURAL BUILDING ACCORDING TO THE PRINCIPLES OF SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT
RESUMO
Sustainability has become a major concern, as it defines local, regional and global development, by creating a trenchent perspective for envisioning the future. Within the broad concept of durable development, the paper analyses the significance and evolution of the concept, by investigating the main environmental assessment methods in order to better apply the principles of sustainability in the design stage of a building. The main objective of this paper is the selection and analysis of environmentally friendly design grounds in the early stages of the project, when the outlines of sustainable development are best incorporated. In this paper, the authors present a thorough analysis of a project for rehabilitation, the Museum for Cultural Heritage Preservation in Moinesti, Romania, in terms of sustainable development criteria. When applied to a project, the sustainability criteria refer to the efficient allocation of resources, using materials with low-embodied energy, minimum energy consumption, reuse and recycling for an efficient long-term use of natural resources.
