AN EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION ON EFFICIENCY IMPROVEMENT OF A CONVENTIONAL KEROSENE PRESSURE STOVE
RESUMO
This paper reports an experimental study dealing with the enhancement of thermal efficiency of a conventional kerosene pressure stove by incorporating a ceramic heat shield and a porous radiant insert. The heat shield was made of a low conducting and radiating alumina Al2O3, while the porous radiant insert was made of highly conducting and radiating ZrO2. The insert was placed in the combustion zone of the stove to have an increased heat transfer by utilizing the concept of the porous media combustion partially. The effects of various parameters, such as the distance between the burner surface and the bottom of the vessel, the vessel diameter, and the fuel flow rate on thermal efficiency, were investigated. For the chosen burner geometry, for a particular size of the vessel and flow rate range, the thermal efficiency was found to be considerably high. Against 55% efficiency of the conventional stoves, for the present configuration, this was found to be 70%.
