THERMAL FLUID FLOW TRANSPORT PHENOMENON OVER TWIN DIAMOND-SHAPED CYLINDERS IN FREE STREAM
RESUMO
The present study deals with unsteady laminar fluid flow transport phenomena around a pair of diamond-shaped cylinders in a free stream. Emphasis is placed on the effects of the Reynolds number, Re, and the ratio of the cylinder separation distance to the length of a diamond-shaped cylinder, s/d, on the flow patterns and thermal fields in side-by-side arrangements. The study discloses that (i) the generation of von Karman vortex streets behind the diamond-shaped cylinders is intensified with an increase in the Reynolds number, (ii) the flow pattern in the wake region of the diamond-shaped islands is affected by s/d, (iii) the corresponding flow map is obtained in the form of the Reynolds number versus s/d, (iv) the vortex shedding frequency depends slightly on the gap spacing, and (v) the vortex appears in the downstream direction and in contrast the corresponding thermal diffusion occurs in the vicinity of the diamond cylinders.
