THE MODEL OF A NONLINEAR RADIATING ELECTROMAGNETIC CRYSTAL IN THE MIXING MODE

RESUMO

A radiating electromagnetic crystal, containing resistance-capacitive nonlinear two-terminal networks, is discussed. The structure is finite along one coordinate axis and infinite along the other axis, and it is excited by a free-space plane wave with low amplitude at a signal frequency. Simultaneously, the electromagnetic crystal is excited by its natural wave with high amplitude, propagating at a heterodyne frequency. Two problems of linear and nonlinear analysis are analyzed. The harmonic balance method is applied for nonlinear analysis, which produces a system of nonlinear equations in relation to the voltage amplitudes of heterodyne frequency harmonics in all elements of the crystal. The results of nonlinear problem solution are presented as time dependencies of differential conductivities and capacities of nonlinear elements. Linear analysis about excitation of the structure by a free-space plane wave is carried assuming specified differential conductivities and capacitances. The result of the linear problem solution is the loss of wave conversion at the signal frequency to the electromagnetic crystal wave at the interim frequency.
