Effect of the Porous Structure Characteristics of Metallic Fibers on the Start of Boiling of Water under the Conditions Typical of Heat Pipes and Thermosiphons

The results of experimental investigations of the influence of the parameters of metallic fibrous structures on the start of boiling of water are presented. The investigations were performed under the conditions of free motion of liquid typical of thermosiphons and under the conditions of capillary transport typical of heat pipes. Empirical formulas are obtained. They make it possible to calculate difference of temperatures during the start of boiling. It is found that the characteristics of porous structures exert a weak influence on the difference of temperatures in initial boiling. This influence is insignificant.
