A Study of Drag Reduction by Base Bleed at Subsonic Speeds

RESUMO

This paper presents the experimental research results of the drag reduction rate of the base bleed of solid fuel-rich propellent column at subsonic speeds. The experimental range of Mach number was from 0.6 to 0.98. Experiments show that the base drag can be removed by the base bleed of propellent column under the range of M = 0.6−0.8. The Bowman-Clayden's empirical formula, which was widely used, is not applicable in this speed range.
