LASER ASSISTED HIGH-SPEED SHUTTER TV CAMERA FOR INVESTIGATIONS ON COMBUSTION OF ALUMINIZED PROPELLANTS
RESUMO
Aluminum particles loaded in composite propellants have a tendency to agglomerate on the burning surface before ignition. The Al agglomerates, ejected by the lift of the gaseous outlet flow, ignite by exposure to the high temperature diffusion flame and can burn even relatively far from the propellant burning surface. A laser-assisted high-speed shutter TV camera diagnostic has been developed and successfully used for Al agglomerate visualization on and in the vicinity of the propellant burning surface. A Nd-YAG laser has been employed to supply UV and visible illumination. Three highly aluminized propellants have been tested in the pressure range 1 to 4 MPa. The images obtained have been qualitatively and quantitatively useful for better comprehension of the Al combustion processes despite the fact that the image resolution is expected to be improved at the highest tested pressure.
