DEVELOPMENT OF COMPACT WIDE BEAMWIDTH FOLDED DIPOLE ANTENNA FOR INDOOR POSITIONING SYSTEM
RESUMO
This paper presents a reduced height magnetoelectric (ME) dipole antenna using the concept of a folded magnetic dipole. The antenna is able to provide dual bands in the frequency range 3.3 GHz to 6.1 GHz, (56.6% impedance bandwidth) and from 8.0 GHz to 8.5 GHz (6.1% impedance bandwidth) respectively. The antenna exhibits the property of maintaining the average gain of 7.5 dBi, whereby providing maximum peak gain of 10.75 dBi at 4.8 GHz. The measured 3-dB beamwidth in the E-plane of the ME dipole antenna is 122.8° at 5.5 GHz, which is far better than many reported publications. The measurement results are in good agreement with the simulation results and this antenna has a wide range of suitability in various applications meant for the UWB frequency region.
