LES AND RANS COMPUTATIONS OF NATURAL CONVECTION IN A NEARLY-HORIZONTAL SHALLOW CAVITY
要約
Natural convection flow in a shallow cavity with a heated ceiling and cooled floor is considered. The rectangular cavity aspect ratio is 1/29, with its longest axis forming a small angle of 5° or less with the horizontal axis. A quasi DNS for Rayleigh number Ra = 4.16×108. provides reference data against which the performance of different RANS models can be compared. Further investigations are carried out to examine the effects of the inclination angle and the Ra number, up to Ra = 4.16×1011 . The strong temperature gradient at the floor or ceiling imposes a laminar layer, while on the other side of the velocity peak, turbulence is able to develop, then the central layer is found to be again strongly stratified. Even at Ra = 1011 the extent of the turbulent region is quite limited.
