This present work describes a modified κ-ε model for turbulent flow in porous media. The governing equations are obtained by time averaging the volume-averaged equations (time-averaging theory).This modified model accounts for the second order approximation in the Forchheimer terms. This higher order term leads to a better description of the turbulent effects of the Forchheimer term in the flow through the porous media. As an application example, a turbulent flow in an annular heat exchanger with a porous substrate attached to the inner cylinder is analysed. A control volume approach is employed for discretizing the governing equations. The set of the discretized linear algebraic equations are solved using the line by line method. A good agreement is obtained for the validation case. The effect of the flow rate ratio between the cold and hot fluids is analyzed.
