High-order large-eddy simulation of space-temporal development of the turbulent wake of a sphere in a thermally stratified fluid
要約
We compute the turbulent wake of a sphere in thermally stratified water at Reynolds and internal Froude numbers Re = 104 and F = 25. To compute the far wake without using ad hoc initial conditions, we first provide a space development study and then focus on a part of the wake to carry on a temporal computation. The study is based on using a high-order multi-domain spectral solver and the LES (Large-Eddy Simulation) capability is implemented through a SVV (Spectral Vanishing Viscosity) technique (SVV-LES approach). The numerical results conform with the experiments, especially showing the expected development of the wake and the so-called three-Dimensional, Non-Equilibrium and Quasi two-Dimensional regimes.
