INVESTIGATION OF AERODYNAMIC FORCES ON TWO TANDEM CARS
要約
Drivers in Races, try to increase their vehicle's velocity by decreasing friction forces on their vehicles. Also With the current conditions of rising fuel prices, vehicle manufacturers all over the world are looking into the ways to make their vehicles more energy efficient and therefore more environment friendly. Decreasing aerodynamic resistance forces is one of the ways to achieve this aim. We report here aerodynamic force measurements carried out on a simplified two tandem cars model. The present study is tried to implement a three-dimensional computational study of the flow over a two close-following (tandem) cars at different velocities and different distances and try to understand the flow behavior with the real life vehicles problem. After designing and meshing in GAMBIT software, simulation carried out with several turbulent models and found that standard k−ε turbulent model derives results which are in acceptable agreement with experimental results. It was found that drag force on rear vehicle is less than the front one and drag force on front one will decrease as the rear vehicle gets closer to it. These Numerical results agree well with the reported experimental results.
