要約

The use of straw and similar pellets (replacing fossil fuels) leads to the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and therefore contributes to the objective of the EU Directive for a 20% reduction of GHG emissions. Greece and Russia have significant available quantities of straw, which can be used in the production of straw pellets; these pellets can then be used as a fuel for heating / electricity either at a domestic level or as a process fuel and have significant advantages in regards to logistics compared to other handled forms, such as bales. However, the use of straw pellets in combustion applications has so far been limited by it ash properties, namely the low melting temperatures due to the presence of alkalis. In bed combustion in particular low ash melting temperatures promote the formation of slag agglomerates, which lead to increased pressure drops and, eventually, to the defluidization of the bed and boiler shutdowns. The results of the research on combustion of straw and similar pellets in a turbulent fluidized bed boiler are introduced. The proposed technology allows preventing slag and ash agglomeration in a bed.
