RT Journal Article ID 516d8f3a295deb79 A1 Smurov, I. Yu. T1 Pyrometry Applications for Laser, Plasma, and Electron-Beam Machining JF Heat Transfer Research JO HTR YR 2002 FD 2002-12-01 VO 33 IS 7&8 OP 18 AB A set of pyrometers is developed and applied for surface temperature monitoring in pulsed-periodic Nd:YAG-laser welding, deep penetration welding by a CO2 laser, an electron beam and a plasma arc; laser assisted machining, plasma-arc steel refining, waste treatment in a plasma furnace, plasma cladding, and plasma spraying. A 2D pyrometer is used to study the evolution of temperature profiles and temperature gradients vs. typical variation of the process variables. The color and the true temperatures are found with the aid of a two-color pyrometer, the true temperature is also reconstructed on the basis of polychromatic measurement (10 wavelengths). It is shown that the pyrometers developed can be used for process monitoring and on-line control in a wide range of high-temperature applications.
