Since the human hearing range is very wide, the determination of the SPL distribution for a given source spectrum is not trivial and may be regarded as a multi-scale problem. To this end, one has to solve repeatedly, for many different wave numbers, the Helmholtz equation in the upper half-space, while imposing the given impedance boundary condition. A simple computational scheme, based on the use of fictitious sources, is devised for the efficient solution of these problems, leading to an effective SPL calculation. The computational aspects of the method are discussed, and its performance is demonstrated via numerical examples. %8 2009-03-27
