T1 NUMERICAL INVESTIGATIONS AND PERFORMANCE EVALUATION OF A FOLDED TUBE HEAT TRANSPORT SYSTEM UNDER BOILING CONDITIONS JF Multiphase Science and Technology JO MST YR 2018 FD 2018-10-04 VO 30 IS 4 SP 267 OP 291 K1 folded tube heat exchanger K1 boiling two phase flow K1 boiling heat transfer AB Folded tube heat exchangers are the choice of the designer owing to their simple and compact designs. These heat exchangers provide better heat transfer performance in comparison to straight tube heat exchangers. Generally, empirical models developed for straight tubular systems are used for designing the folded tube heat transport systems. To evaluate the performance of one such system, efforts have been made in this study. A folded tube system is simulated using system code RELAP5 and CFD and its performance was evaluated. A part of the folded tube system is modelled using CFD and velocity and void distribution were observed and analysed. Euler-Euler model is utilized for the two phase boiling simulations. Conclusions are made on the basis of the 3D flow field obtained by CFD. The results indicate that the design calculations show under prediction of heat transfer coefficient, when compared with the 3D CFD predictions.
