NUMERICAL PREDICTION OF A TANDEM STRAIGHT-BLADED WIND TURBINE PERFORMANCE

The present work is an unsteady two-dimensional numerical simulation of the flow around a modified H-rotor defined as a three-tandem straight-bladed wind turbine (six blades). The simulations have been performed using the Fluent code. The sliding mesh technique was applied to treat the unsteady character of flow. The turbulence model used for calculations is the one-equation Spalart-Allmaras model. The numerical investigation was validated through the comparison of the calculations of a conventional three-bladed turbine with experimental results found in the literature. The obtained results with the 2D numerical test of the proposed H-rotor present a reasonable improvement in the performance.
