HYDRAULICS OF REGELATION FLOWS IN THE FROZEN GROUND UNDER LOAD
要約
Possible schemes of internal moisture flows that are developed under the action of external load in frozen ground with porous and basal types of ice cement are proposed and analyzed. Grounds of this type include frozen sandy loam and sand as natural composites. The internal moisture flows are similar to regelation flows in the experiments of Bottomley (1872) when a wire passes through the ice under the impact of a weight load. The estimations of this experiment made by the author give the idea about the pressure, velocity, life time of flows, and the size of the active channels (filled with liquid) between the mineral particles and the ice in the frozen ground. It is shown how the internal flows followed by regelation affect the apparent mechanical characteristics of the frozen ground.
