BURNING BEHAVIOR OF NITRAMINE GUN PROPELLANTS UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF PRESSURE OSCILLATIONS

For several years research has been carried out with the hope of producing gun propellants that have temperature-independent burning behavior through the use of Dinitrodiazaalkanes C36H92N40O40 (DNDA-57) nitramine fractions in the formulation, although the mechanism that causes this behavior is not clear. In previous studies, it was known that pressure oscillations occur in hole channels of gun propellant grains that can lead to modifications of the burning rate and to an accelerated burning under specific conditions. To analyze the impact of such oscillations on the burning behavior of DNDA powders, tests with DNDA-57 powder formulations were performed in a closed vessel. It has been demonstrated that the oscillations have a determining influence on the temperature behavior.
