The water bodies studied included the Pripyat (Pripet) River, the cooling pond of the Chernobyl NPS, and Lake Glubokoye. It has been found that increased radiation background does not adversely affect the functioning of algal communities, which are characterized by intensive processes of production and decomposition, are highly diverse in their species composition, and abundant. %8 1999-10-01
