Their peculiarity is that due to a previously unknown combination of gas dynamic and electro-physical processes they can propagate into the ducts without connection to metal walls. This developed type of discharge has been referred to as a volume-centered discharge. Investigations have been carried out on two types of ducts at different distances between walls. The distance creates peculiarities in the discharge formation. The studies show that due to the shape of the electrode developed at TsAGI, longitudinal zones with one or two minimums of static pressure and neutral molecule concentrations can arise behind the electrode in supersonic flow. These zones are favorable for discharge spreading. The gas dynamic conditions have been determined at which the discharge channel displaces towars these zones and localizes. As a result of the detailed numerical investigations on supersonic flows and gas dynamic parameter distributions in the neighborhood of the modules, the mechanisms of the discharge formation in modules of different types have been detected. These mechanisms contribute their own peculiarities to the possibilities of the practical application of the modules.
