It has been found that when the buoyancy force is exerted fluid is exchanged between the main stream and the cavity even in the Reynolds number range where there is no exchange of fluid in the case without the effect of buoyancy: The fluid in the main stream enters the cavity, traveling spirally to the position where the fluid flows out. It has also been found that the flow becomes unsteady when the Richardson number exceeds a critical value.
