T1 Seasonal and Spatial Changes in the Content and Molecular Mass Distribution of Carbohydrates in the Surface Waters JF Hydrobiological Journal JO HYD YR 2014 FD 2014-10-31 VO 50 IS 5 SP 89 OP 98 K1 carbohydrates K1 content K1 molecular mass distribution K1 surface waters AB The content and molecular mass distribution of the dissolved carbohydrates were studied in water bodies of various types: in the Desna River, in the Kiev and Kanev reservoirs, in the Tsentralnoye and Verbnoye lakes, and in the Orekhovatskiy pond N 2. Changes in relationship between the fractions of carbohydrates differing in their molecular mass with space and time have been described. In all the studied water bodies in the surface layer of water, the highest content of carbohydrates, and also of their high molecular (> 30 kDa) fraction, was observed in spring and summer, whereas their lowest content − in winter. The low molecular (< 1 kDa) fractions of carbohydrates prevailed in summer in the near bottom layer of water during the period of oxygen deficiency. It has been found that in the upper section of the Kiev Reservoir the concentration of high molecular fractions of carbohydrates was higher than that in its lower section.
