Changes in the species composition of seaweeds of phytocenoses with dominance of Zostera L. in the Strait of Kerch (Crimean coast of the Black Sea, Ukraine)
S. Ye. Sadogurskiy State Nikitskiy Botanical Garden, 334267 Yalta, Crimea, Ukraine
ABSTRACT The species composition of seaweeds (Chlorophyta, Phaeophyta and Rhodophyta) of phytocenoses (plant communities) with dominance of Zostera L. occurring in the Strait of Kerch has been studied. Its spatial (along the Crimean coast of the strait: from Yenikale Cape in the north to the region in the vicinity of Lake Tobechik in the south) and temporal (for the period from 1991 till 1994) fluctuations are described. The relationship between the variations concerned and the scope of contamination of the marine environment by sewage has been demonstrated. A direct positive correlation was established between the number of species and biomass of seaweeds within saprobiological groups. Twenty one species of seaweeds were found to be new for the Kerch floristic region.
