A revised eukaryote tree: the case for a euglenozoan root
ABSTRACT
Modem situation in the doctrine on basic divergence of eukaryotes is considered. Some recent variants of phylema of Eukaryota are discussed. A number of methodological difficulties and contradictions are analysed. An original veersion of eukaryote phylogeny, based on postulating of euglenozoan (Diplonemea-like) ancestor, and the five-lines development of this dorninan are submitted. The kingdom Euglenozoea is characterized by trans-splicing, three ciliary roots, and discoid cristae in the mitochondriate forms is redescribed in a new circumscription. The kingdom Plantae is expanded on all non-gastrulated lamellicristates characterized by polar cell growth. The kingdom Animalia is limited by choanoflagellates, sponges, and Metazoa with derivatives (Myxozoa, Placozoa). The kingdom Dinozoea is redescribed as containing tubuliscristate amoeboflagellates without tripartite ciliary mastigonemes and a transition helix. The kingdom Chromophyta is accepted in the traditional sense, i.e., including flagellates with a transition helix and, as a rule, tripartite mastigonemes (Ochrophyta, Sagenista, Opalinata).
