MECHANISM OF SPRAY FORMATION FROM LIQUID SHEETS
ABSTRACT
Results of stability analysis of a viscous liquid sheet in a gas are used to evaluate various terms involved in the energy budget of an atomizing liquid sheet. The physical mechanism of atomization of a liquid sheet is elucidated by identifying the dominant terms in the budget. Results of energy analysis are used to explain some distinctive features observed in some known correlations of the mean diameter of the atomized droplets in conical sprays with the Weber number.
