MODELING THE SURFACE MORPHOLOGY OF IRON UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF COMPRESSION PLASMA IMPULSE

ABSTRACT

A polygonal cellular structure with a typical cell size of about 400 nm appears on the surface of iron samples as a result of processing by compression plasma streams. Dendritic fission of the cells is observed at the critical value of the concentration of nitrogen impurity incorporated during the treatment. The formation of such structure takes place in the process of crystallization from a concentrated − supercooled melt. The calculated values of the rate of movement of a solid−melt interface are 0.2−0.5 m/s.
